can not start windows firewall/ICS?
Hello,
I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 used as a stand alone server.
Every time I try to access the Windows Firewall console (interface), I get
the following error in the event viewer:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 1/07/2012
Time: 11:41:46 a.m.
User: N/A
Computer: server1
Description:
The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service terminated
with the following error:
The operating system cannot run Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing
(ICS).
This above record in the event viewer appears after I click the "yes" button
to star the service (Windows Firewall / ICS) at the command prompt when
trying to acces the Windows Firewall.
"Windows Firewall cannot run because the Windows Firewall/Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS) is not running ... "
If I try to start the service manually, the same event is registered in the
event viewer; but addcionally, I get a dialog box with the following message:
"Error 182: 0xb6"
I've searched for this error, but I haven't been able to find any ideas as
to what is causing this problem and how to fix it.
Thank you.

Hello,
The error 182 means that the operating system cannot run the service.
Please try using command lines to start the service: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/enable-and-disable-windows-firewall-quickly-using-command-line/
If this does not help, try increasing the service startup timeout: http://smallvoid.com/article/winnt-service-timeout.html
and check results.

Try this at the command prompt:
netsh winsock reset
You need to restart the server to see if it worked or not.Imran
