Shoaib, I know this is a pain point. A classic one at that. However, it is not recommended. You have to remember that this is part of "managed and autoamted" service. The moment you change that, you are back to manual intervention to try and remember where things are in your environment. So, my recommendation is that you face the hard drvie upgrade task, or consider using WSUS - if your shop warrants it. *a

Hello, never heard about that it is possible. Better ask in the WSUS forum about maybe they have options. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverwsus/threads Why will you move it?Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

It can be moved. However, not as a permanent or system setting. In other words, you can move or delete the contents of this folder - but will cause issues. This is common for folks dealing with disk space problems. THis is always on the short list of things to move to free up space.*a

Hi Shoaib, As far as I know, it is impossible. Why do you need to move SoftwareDistribution folder to D: drive? Save disk spaces on C: drive? If so, you may consider deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder manually via the following steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, and type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter. 2. Click Start, click Run, and type in "%windir%" (without the quotes) and press Enter. 3. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution". 4. Right-click on the folder, select Rename and type "SDold" (without the quotes) to rename this folder. 5. Click Start, click Run, and type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Type in "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then, please make sure Windows Update is working fine. If so, feel free to delete the SDold folder. A new SoftwareDistribution will be created automatically after restarting the computer. Meanwhile, as the updates uninstall information is saved in this folder, you will not be able to uninstall these updates via Add or Remove, Uninstall updates list. To free disk space, you can also check the following links: Strategies for freeing disk space http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Strategies-for-freeing-disk-space How to reclaim disk space on Windows XP and Windows Server 2008-based computers http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956324 Thanks.
