adding 2008 server to an existing 2003 domain
I need to add a 2008 server to an existing 2003 domain. The 2008 server will not be doing anything but running collections software. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Neal.

There should not be any reason you can't add a 2008 server to a 2003 domain. If you want to gain any of the features of 2008 Domains, Policies, etc. that is a different story, but just to add a member server you shouldn't need to do anything other then join the domain.

You will either need to do the following: Log on locally to the 2008 server and join the domain. When prompted for credentials, use an account that has rights (domain admin will do). Of course, this server's DNS Client settings need to be pointing to your internal DNS servers. Or, create a computer account in AD, delegate appropriate permissions to the user that will be joining the server to the domain. Log on that server, join the computer to the domain, when prompted, provide credentials (the user that was delegated permissions). Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hi ARGroupIT Thanks for posting here. The suggestion of Jason and JM are correct, it is no problem that add windows server 2008 as a member computer of windows server 2003 domain .Just make sure Windows Server 2003 domain could be correctly resolved after join operation. And make sure the account you perform collection software has enough permission on window server 2008. Join the Computer to the Domain http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770919(WS.10).aspx#bkmk_NetFndtn_Pln_JoinDom08 Thanks.
