Hello,
the term ADC belongs to "Active Directory connector" so i assume you are talking about an additional domain controller.
Since starting with Windows 2000 server and the introduction of Active directory you can see ALL domain controllers as peers. Active Directory uses multimaster replication, which lets you update the directory at any domain controller. Deploying multiple
domain controllers in one domain provides fault tolerance and load balancing. If one domain controller within a domain slows, stops, or fails, other domain controllers within the same domain can provide necessary directory access, since they contain the same
directory data.
Also domain controllers have the option to act as Global catalog server which provides a central repository of domain information for the forest.

The difference in the forest/domain belongs to the FSMO roles which must exist according some rules.

Hello,
there is nothing to convert. Have the second DC also as GC and DNS server configured. If a DC fails and never comes back from backup then seize the FSMO roles to the existing one and run metadata cleanup.

Of course you have to make sure that the domain machines use the second DC also as DNS server on the NIC.
You should assure in a domain that at least 2 DC/DNS/GC exist per domain. That way only the FSMO roles must be seized in case that DC fails.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hello,
"i got it u means if my dc fails than i need only seize the fsmo roles and only need to run metadat cleanup ok after than if i want to creat again one aditional controller than what can i do is this the same procedure like previoce"
If AD database is clean you can install a new DC again using the old name if that is the question. Of course you can use also another name for the new DC.
"means my Adc become dc and i can configure new ADC"
No, there is no ADC which becomes DC. They are BOTH DCs with different FSMO roles, that's it. Please forget the term ADC, which is "Active Directory Connector" as said before.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Thanks, and i want to know one thing more, if i seize fsmo roles in my aditional domain than i need to reconfigure all my domain clients (nodes) or no need to reconfigure.

Hello,
seizing FSMO roles has nothing to do with clients, only important for DCs. Important is that the previous FSMO roles holder will NOT be brought back online.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Thats fine but i am going to reinstall windows server 2008 and i want to make it aditional controler can i put the same my previouse server name or domain server name
December 15th, 2010 1:54am
Hello,
if you need to use the same name, make sure the name doesn't exist in AD UC, AD sites and services and all DNS zones and zone properties.
