Xerox Printers become unresponsive

I am working on migrating off our Windows 2003 print server to a Windows 2012 server.  In our office we use Xerox ColorQube 8880DN printers and are experiencing issues with the printers the have queues on the 2012 server locking up and becoming unresponsive.  In the print server the common response is printer is in an error state.  When the printer is unresponsive I cannot view its web interface and the only option is to restart the printer.  On the 2012 server I have both the 64 and 32 bit Xerox drivers installed and the driver is the same version.  So far Ive found no information in the event viewer that has helped solve this issue.  I have a Custom view / Server roles / Print and document services setup but have found no errors.

On our 2003 print server we have queues for 4 of these printers and we never have a problem.  I could move all our queues back to the 2003 server but Im working on retiring the server since the OS is end of life.  All clients are Windows 8.1 Pro PCs.
Open to suggestions on how to trace and resolve this issue.

Hi,

Thanks for your post.

Firstly, please make sure the migration is finished.

You could refer to the following article about the migration steps

Completing the migration doesn't address my issue, it might only add to the problem.  Why would I have problems on a Windows 2012 server with these printers and not on a 2003 server that I'm trying to retire.  Once I move the 4 other queues off the 2003 server that would just mean I have 4 other departments that will experience the same problem everyone else is experiencing on the 2012 server.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay reply.

Since there is no related error message for the issue, we could do more troubleshooting steps.

Is there any error code about the error state?

There are Operating System restrictions on 2012R2 that are not enforced on 2003.

1)   make sure you have the 2012R2 version of the driver installed

2)  What is the precise version of the Xerox software?

3) Have you enabled the Operation PrintService events.  That may give you additional information.
