Hi,

I've recently attempted to get SCOM 2012 working with the built in XenServer SCOM agent and associated MP.  I'm aware that Microsoft and Citrix work very closely on this cross platform support as part of the V-Alliance so I'm hoping someone at this end may have come across this issue.

The problem comes when attempting discovery of the XenServer host.  I receive messages stating that 'Platform not supported' and 'Import the Management Pack for this platform in order to discover this computer.

I have downloaded and installed the relevant server certificate.  I've created the Run As account and associated it with both the Unix/Linux Action Account and UNIX/Linux Privileged Account.  I've imported the Linux Library MP and the Backwards compatibility MPs. I've imported the XenServer library MP and the XenServer MP.

Has anyone else come across this or have any ideas that may help?

Don't know anything about Citrix's XenServer being managed by SCOM 2012 but I did find this URL that may be helpful...

What exactly are you trying to do here, install a Linux agent on the XenServer and manage it like any other Linux system?

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

It transpires that it's a problem with the Citrix XenServer MP.  Despite there being a hotfix specifically for this issue released recently by Citrix for XenServer 6, it still doesn't resolve the issue.

For anyone reading this I'd suggest opening a support ticket with Citrix directly.

As it happens monitoring XenServer is no longer a requirement as for this particular requirement it's been ditched in favour of Hyper-V 2012.

This one working example for SCVMM2012, maybe applicable with SCOM too

-remove server if already in a pool
here is the procedure
1. remove hqsvr01 from xencenter pool
2. remove hqsvr01.domain.com from mmc cert in scvmm server
-in cmd, open mmc
add Certificate Computer account add-in
go to Trusted People/Certificates
remove hqsvr01.domain.com if any
3. remove "Microsoft System Center Integration Pack 6.0.2.1 if any
# rpm -e ms-scx openpegasus xenserver-vnc-control xs-cim-cmpi
4. regenerate cert using scvmm-prep.sh
# chmod +x /root/scvmm-prep.sh
5. install "Microsoft System Center Integration Pack 6.0.2.1
# mount -o loop /tmp/XenServer-6.0.2.1-integration-suite.iso /mnt/iso/
# cd /mnt/iso
# ./install.sh
6. add cert of hqsvr01.domain.com into scvmm
using IE, open https://hqsvr01.domain.com
click Continue to this website
click Security reports
click View certificates
click Install Certificate
Certificate Store
  click Place all certificates in the following store
   click Browse
   tick Show physical stores
   click Trusted People/Local Computer
7. add hqsvr01 into scvmm
8. add hqsvr01 into serverpool in xencenter
9. exit hqsvr01 from maintenance mode
10. ssh to hqsvr01
# cd /
# umount /mnt/iso
11. delete hqsvr01  from scvmm
12. add hqsvr01 into scvmm
