Worrying volume manager error
I have a 4Tb MSA enclosure attached to a W2K8 server. The HP Insight Manager and Array Diagnostic Utility are usually the first to present error messages, but on this occasion they're not. I initially heard that directories on the share were empty and found that the disk's status in Disk Management was Healthy (At Risk). A restart of the server brought the disk's status back to Healthy and the files reappeared, but within a day there were unusual events - files missing again, and files present but with no file extension. I'm removing all the data from the disks following yet another restart, but I'm curious about what the cause of this problem is. The lights on the drives don't show errors, but when there's a problem with the disk they are not lit as I would expect - i.e., only the first three out of 14 drives have lights, but it's the activity light permanently on. The latest error prior to the reboot was: Log Name: System Source: volmgr Date: 19/05/2011 06:00:21 Event ID: 57 Task Category: (2) Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: BELFAST Description: The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.Tim Gowen
