Windows server 2008 r2 Event log error 1001 Window Error Reporting
I have a couple of issues with Windows Server 2008 R2 VM. In the Application event logs this error constantly appears: Windows error reporting event id 1001 Version=1 EventType=WindowsWcpOtherFailure3 EventTime=130122344500993107 ReportType=1 Consent=1 UploadTime=130122344501617115 ReportIdentifier=76fa6471-b588-11e2-9e96-005056850006 Response.BucketId=1946870362 Response.BucketTable=5 Response.type=4 Sig[0].Name=OsVersion Sig[0].Value=6.1.7601 Sig[1].Name=File Sig[1].Value=base\wcp\componentstore\storelayout.cpp Sig[2].Name=Function Sig[2].Value=ComponentStore::CRawStoreLayout::OpenCanonicalDataKey Sig[3].Name=Line Sig[3].Value=6636 Sig[4].Name=Status Sig[4].Value=c015001a Sig[5].Name=StackHash Sig[5].Value=0xdb986415 DynamicSig[1].Name=OS Version DynamicSig[1].Value=6.1.7601.2.1.0.400.8 DynamicSig[2].Name=Locale ID DynamicSig[2].Value=1033 State[0].Key=Transport.DoneStage1 State[0].Value=1 FriendlyEventName=WindowsWcpOtherFailure3 ConsentKey=WindowsWcpOtherFailure3 AppName=Windows Modules Installer AppPath=C:\Windows\servicing\TrustedInstaller.exe When I try to run windows updates it fails with error 80073712 Running the wsus client diag utility gives me the error: WSUS Client Diagnostics Tool Checking Machine State Checking for admin rights to run tool . . . . . . . . . PASS Automatic Updates Service is running. . . . . . . . . . PASS Background Intelligent Transfer Service is not running. PASS GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified. From another post I installed KB947821. It did not correct anything. Last, I tried reinstalling the windows update agent with windowsupdateagent30-x64.exe which errors with an unrecoverable error. Can anyone provide a suggestion? Thanks, Jeff

Has the update readiness tool been run without error? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool?SignedIn=1 Then check the %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file for errors and post results if needed. Here are the results from the logs. Not sure about this one as the system is running. Just cannot patch and have the event ID 1001 every couple of minutes in the Application log. ================================= Checking System Update Readiness. I think that leaves you with method 3 and 4 below. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957310 Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows] Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

From a command prompt with admin privledges: C:\>sfc /scannow Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation. No other way to fix this? I cannot perform an in place upgrade on this system at this time. The application it supports functions, just cannot apply updates.

Unfortunately the error indicates component store corruption but the SUR tool apparently doesn't detect it so your left with an in-place upgrade. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2255099 Assuming things go well it should affect the application but you're right to plan for the worst. If it were me I'd stand up a new guest and install move the application over. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Dave, Thanks for you quick responses. I will be taking the approach from your last suggestion, Create new guest and re-install all applications. One last question, does the windows error reporting event have anything to do with this or is that a secondary item completely separate from the component store corruption? Jeff

I'd say its got to be related somehow. TrustedInstaller.exe = windows module installer service Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows] Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
