Windows server 2008 in a 2003 domain
Hi, We currently have a Windows server 2003 R2 domain. We have a new server with Windows 2008. Initially we plan to add the new server to the domain as a member server. We will, at a later date, promote it to a domain controller. I believe that we would need to prepare the domain for this. Initially, is there any issue with or preporation that we need to do to join the new server to the domain as a member server only. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

To add it as a member server, you don't need preparations. If you want to add it as a DC then refer to the article I gave. You can prepare for the 2008 DC by running ADPREP. Preparing your Active Directory Infrastructure for 2008 http://www.anitkb.com/2010/03/preparing-your-active-directory.html Simply adding a 2008 member server does not require updating the schema.Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hi, Thanks for that. Just to confiem then, adding a 2008 member server(no roles added) should not cause any issues with the existing 2003 AD. Thanks
