Windows server 2008, problem with product key
Hi Some time ago I downloaded Windows Server 2008 installation pack from Microsoft Webpage, setup.exe file version: 6.0.6001.18000 I have installed and configured the system on few computers (60-day evaluation version) then after some time I bought licences from my software developer to activate the product. Licence version: WinSvrEmb 2008 woHyprV 1-4 CPU 5Clt OSEM Software. The problem is I can't activate the software now, I get information as follows: The product key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows Server. My question is where is the problem; that I have full version not embedded or that I have a version with Hyper-V? Thanks Tomek

My suggestion is to contact Microsoft licensing. http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/existing-customers/activation-centers.aspx Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ http://publications.sivarajan.com/ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Hello Tomasz, I know the HyperV and Non-HyperV editions need different keys. I thought the embedded versions needed a separate key as wellThanks, Darrell Gorter This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi Tomek, I would suggest you looking the edition of Windows 2008 that you have installed. You have to match the licence key to the edition you selected during the installation. You will not be able to activate key of a different edition. I notice you list in the version as OSEM which is not familar to me. I have include a link for the version of Windows 2008 for your references. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/r2-edition-comparison-distribution.aspx You may also check Control Panel\System and Security\System for the Windows Server Edition. Else your local Microsoft Licencing will be your best bet from here.
