Windows could not be started as configured
Hi there, I have a Windows Server running 2003 Standard. I rebooted this the other day as it was running slowly (I hadn't installed any updates) Now when the server reboots I receive the above error. I click OK and proceed to login then the the machine just sits at the blue screen with the cursor. The mouse responds fine and when I do CTRL + ALT + DEL I get the normal options. However all I can do is click the shutdown link. Task Manager doesn't load. Can someone help me as I've spent 48 hours trying to get this working. I've also tried the F8 options of Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt and Last Known Good configuration Thanks Craig

Hi , thanks for this. I installed the service pack over 6 months ago now and haven't had an issue until recently. The fact that I can't get explorer.exe or task manager to load is making my life a bit difficult in trying to find the error. Thanks Craig

mm..looks like you have corrupted OS, I would recommend you to migrate running applications to new server, make sure to have a good AV solution on your infra, and reinstall this OS

Hi, Anyway, before reinstalling the OS, I suggest booting into Recovery Console and modify the registry according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924690.
