Does your laptop recognize any boot CD? The reason I ask is I am wondering if you have your BIOS set up to first look to boot from CD before it looks to boot from your hard drive. If your hard drive is first in the list, and the system finds a bootable system there, it will never get to your CD. tgc

Hi, Please note in order to resolve this issue more efficiently I'd like to suggest you post at http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/default.aspx?ForumGroupID=561&SiteID=17, where support engineers or other members are specialized in the field of Windows XP issue. However, I am also happy to provide some steps and useful information to assist you. From your description, I think firstly you should check with your laptop manufacturer if this laptopsupports Windows XP. Also, please use other bootable CD (for example, installation discs for other Windows systems) to see if the CD-ROM drive is working correctly. If everything is ok with the above steps, please check if you correctly configure the BIOS to boot your system form CD-ROM. As for how to set the BIOS to boot from CD-ROM, please refer to the below article from more information: http://www.hiren.info/pages/bios-boot-cdrom As for how to lunch a clear installation of Windows XP, please refer to the following articles: How to install or upgrade to Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941/en-us Clearly install Windows XP http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_windows_xp.htm I hope this helps.
