Can anyone help resolve this issue my Windows Server 2008 standard 32bit serve will not install update KB it always fails with error code 80070490 Windows update encountered an unknown error.

Thanks for responding, I was using Window Update. I tried the steps in KB 958044 but in step 7 the Upgrade option has been disabled with a message implying that it was not a newer version.

Sorry about that I was out of the office last week and hope to give your sugestion but it probably won't be untill late today before I get to that point.

First I want to thank you all for your help, but I still was had the same problem that I needed a newer version o f the OS. I had very little installed on the server so I reinstall it from scratch at this point it seem the fast way around the problem.

How can I do a repair install of Server 2008 when this options is not available?
