Windows Update Failing in Server 2008 RC1 x64
I recently upgraded my Server 2003 Enterprise to Windows Server 2008 RC1 (x64). Everything seems to have gone well and I havenot had any problems until I went to perform a Windows Update. When I click Check for updates I receive a Code 80072F8F. Doing a little research I found that error code for Vista regarding the date and time. I have validated the date and time to be correct and even tried changing the date to see if that helped. Nope. Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks!

I ran into the same error code when I attempted to upgrade from W2008 x64RC1 (without Hyper-V) to the one with it (Win2008 x64RC1 that was released on 12/15/07) my only solution was to do a clean install -vs- upgrade... c'est la vie Kevin

It isprobably becauseyour computer's date and time might not be the same as the date and time for the online Windows Update service. Your computer and the service don't need to have an identical date and time, but if they vary too much it will prevent you from checking for updates. -waqas

After all sorts of debugging and trying different things including changing time, reviewing certificates, checking security settings, etc. I updated the root certificates by running the following http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/rootsupd_94e9af610087f43b1b637bb5c0e8146.exe Problem solved.

Joe, Thank you for this posting!! I was having the same issue with the x86 release, and this cured it. Don't know how you found it, but I'm extremely thankful you did. It was driving me nuts! TJ
