Windows Update Attempting to Reinstall IE 9 x64
I have a WS2008 R2 DC virtual machine with IE 9.0.8112.16421 x64 w/ KB982861 and every other update already installed. Yet Windows Update keeps presenting IE 9 as a needed update. If I select it, it fails with a 9C48 error.
I have an identical installation without the issue.
Suggestions? TIA, Marc

Hello,
Please proceed like that:
Run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r /f Reset Windows Update components Download and install system update readiness tool for your OS Disable all security softwares
Once done, try installing again. If this does not help, download and install manually the update.
If the problem persists then perform an in-place upgrade of your OS.

Hi,
If the issue still exists after reinstall in Windows Update, please test to manually download IE9 from website:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/products/ie/home
And install it to see if issue can be resolved.TechNet Subscriber Support in forum |If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com.

T4R. I have already went down this path to the extend of trying to remove IE9 and doing another install, but I can't fully remove it. IE8 doesn't appear to be installed.

T4R. All of the recommendations of the first link have already been applied. No luck. I am not sure why the second link would apply. All other updates have been applied.

Liran, T4R.
I've tried all of the above except the last suggestion. I understand the concept of an in-place upgrade, but not in this context since there is nothing to upgrade to. Can you elaborate?
Marc

The problem is that the installed version of IE9 is the same as the update. Does anyone know how to adjust Windows Update so it doesn't want to try to update it?

First, T4R.
Tried your suggest without success. However found the problem in the IE9_main.log. See my last entry.

Where is the IE9_main.log located. I did a quick search on my PC but couldn't locate it.
Thanks.
