Windows Time on Server 2008 domain controller
Hi
We have 3 domain controllers. The server which also contains the PDC emulator doesn't have the Windows Time service installed for some strange reason.
I now want to install it. Shouldn't it be enough to run "w32tm /register" on the server and then it should be running???
If I just move the PDC emulator role to one of the other DC's in our domain, then that server will be our Time server, is that correct??? It shouldn't be necesseray to move the PDC emulator role to a different server before running "w32tm /register"???/Lasse

Hello,
w32tm /register should add the time server with it's default settings.
Moving the PDCEmulator FSMO requires to configure it to an external time source, NTP server or hardware device not belonging to the domain. But you are correct as the PDCEmulator is the domain time source.
No, shouldn't be a problem to register the time service, but make sure to have at least a system state backup in case something fails, also you can move the FSMO roles before to another DC, register it and move the FSMOs back.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
