HI all,I am using Windows Server Backup on some Windows Server 2008 server, which works very well.One problem though - I have not found a way to reliably determine if backup worked properly other than bringing up the Windows Server Backup GUI and checking it on each server.Is there an easier, reliable way to confirm each day? An email sent on failure, a text file of status or catalog of what was backed up, etc.? How do others verify backup other than going to each server?thanks!

Hi, In Windows Server Backup, different Event IDs have different meanings. For example, Event 4 (GENERIC_BACKUP_FAILED_EVENT) means that backup has finished successfully; while Event 5 (GENERIC_BACKUP_FAILED_EVENT) means Backup started at '%6' failed with following error code '%2'. To verify that a backup operation completed with no errors, you can perform the following steps: 1. Open Event Viewer. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer. 2. In the left pane, double-click Applications and Service Logs, double-click Microsoft, double-click Windows, double-click Backup, and then click Operational. 3. In the Event ID column, look for event 4. 4. For this event, confirm that the value in the Source column is Backup. To collect events from different computers, you may use the new feature, Event Subscription, in Windows Server 2008. By combining the task scheduling, you can generate timely alert.
