Windows Server activation
Hi, In my corporation we utilize Volume Licensing (with a common license key) for Windows Server 2008r2. For activation we have a specific KMS activation server. My question: In some cases, systems from external vendors, supply complete systems with Windows 2008r2 based on a license key supplied by them. Will this installation be able to activate from our current KMS activation server? If not, what is the preferred solution Regards

Torix, I would say it depends. Best thing to do is logon to the vendor machine and share slmgr.vbs -slv screen shot. If the vendor machine is a KMS client, it will activate against your KMS server just like anything else. If its a MAK client or retail client it will not. KMS does not perform any auditing or anything like that. Can you share the output?Dave Guenthner [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. http://blogs.technet.com/b/davguents_blog
