Windows Server Backup and BitLocker
Hello, we use Windows Server Backup to perform a daily backup to a local hard disk. We concider to protect a few servers using BitLocker. We plan to enable BitLocker on the boot drive that contains the Windows directory and the backupTarget drive. I guess this is a good idea because Microsoft recommends is: "If you are using BitLocker Drive Encryption to protect your server, if possible, make sure that the storage location you choose is also protected with BitLocker Drive Encryption." (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753528.aspx) However, a collegue pointed me to this page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc527615(WS.10).aspx that reads "If the backup target volume is encrypted with BitLocker, you must disable BitLocker before you can back up to the volume. If you reenable BitLocker after the backup, and you need to restore it from the encrypted volume, you must disable BitLocker before you can restore the backup." Is this a limitation of the SBS edition, a typo or really true? Kind regards, Jiriki
