Windows Server 2012 R2 Eval ISO - Installation error 0x80070570

Hello,

I was reading a previous discussion regarding the "Windows Server 2012 R2 Eval ISO - Installation error 0x80070570". I have tried everything I can think of or have read:

1 - Updated the system's BIOS firmware (I don't see any apparent settings that might be the culprit). The system board is an AMD Phenom II X4 965.

2 - Replaced the hard drive.

3 - Ran multiple memory tests using Memtest86+  .

4 - Downloaded the ISO three times, copied them to a Linux box and ran an md5sum:

-rwxrw-rw- 1 john john 4542291968 Apr 20 13:03 win2012_1.iso
-rwxrw-rw- 1 john john 4542291968 Apr 22 17:15 win2012_2.iso
-rwxrw-rw- 1 john john 4542291968 Apr 23 18:58 win2012_3.iso
[root@redsys6 Downloads]# md5sum win2012_1.iso
b391a267949518ed6bb69f908f252076  win2012_1.iso
[root@redsys6 Downloads]# md5sum win2012_2.iso
b391a267949518ed6bb69f908f252076  win2012_2.iso
[root@redsys6 Downloads]# md5sum win2012_3.iso
b391a267949518ed6bb69f908f252076  win2012_3.iso

5 - This system has had Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10 installed so I'm quite sure the DVD drive is fine.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thank you for any help you can provide,

John.

One of the things about the internet is that there are cache servers all over the place, and sometimes a bad copy of a file will get cached.  What happens then is that no matter how many times you download, if you keep hitting that cache server, you get the same bad copy.  I just did an MD5 of a known good copy.

So, your best bet is to see if you can try to download from another part of town or from a different ISP.  I've seen other posts in here where that has worked.

Good point, thanks Tim.

I downloaded from a different provider in a different town but I get the same md5sum as my previous downloads, installation consistently fails at 35%. Is there a checksum or md5sum listed for this download anywhere?

What's the name of the file you are downloading?  How are you downloading?

I am downloading through the Technet Evaluation Center.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2012-r2

The file name is:

9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_SSS_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9.ISO

I had the exact same issue...  My bad .iso MD5 hashes even match the ones you posted.

Solved it by pointing my NIC's DNS entry to google's DNS (8.8.8.8), flushing my DNS cache, picking a different browser, and re-downloading.  Somehow, with all of those steps and a prayer, I managed to download a different (and good) copy of the iso.

YMMV...Good Luck!

Hi John,

The error you meet is typically caused by the corrupt image, could you try to use IE download the image but not the third party download tool.

Please download it at here

I was able to spend some time on this last night, following jrahmlow's directions I downloaded a good copy of the .iso. The MD5 matched Tim's:

5b5e08c490ad16b59b1d9fab0def883a

The Windows installation was successful.

Thank you everyone.

Same thing.  One Windows 10 multiple downloads using IE resulted in same file.  I did a ipconfig /flushdns and then used Microsoft Edge to download and got a good file.

Good MD5:

5b5e08c490ad16b59b1d9fab0def883a

9600.17050.winblue_refresh.140317-1640_x64fre_serves-ir3_sss_x64free_en-us_dv9.iso

Bad MD5:
