Windows Server 2008 with 2 NIC
Hi, I really hop that W8 R2 installation and it's gives me some problem.. My Setup: NIC 1: (WAN access, Internet) 84.238.7.6 255.255.255.252 84.238.7.5 NIC 2: (LAN, access for local where i pickup some data from small centrals) 10.26.201.151 255.255.255.0 Doens't matter with or without GW If NIC 1 are active the Internets, RDP whatever works perfect. When I put my NIC 2 active, I can pickup data from my laundrysystem, but the Internet and RDP doesn't work. I've search a lot of websites, and maybe got a little clue about this problem - But can't figure hot to solve this problem. It's looks for me, to be some routeproblems between thoes 2 NIC's. Does anyone have a solutions? I'am a newbie in Windows 2008 - But try the best I can ;-) ///Henning

Hello, is that server a domain controller or workgroup server? On domain controllers multi-homing is not recommended as you run into multiple problems with access. Also in a workgroup you run into trouble. In your case please redesign the network as it should be normally: internet > router WAN port > router LAN port > switch > all computers of the LAN with the 10.x.x.x subnet With the above mentioned design just configure the server with DNS server role, on a DC already done during promotion, and use the FORWARDERS to configure the ISPs DNS server in the DNS management console. All machines on the switch use the the DNS server ip address and all requests will be forwarded to the ISPs DNS server.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

It is not recommended to have public IP on DC for security reasons. Follow Meinolf suggestion. Thanks

Hello, what is installed on this server? Note that having a domain-joined computer with a public IP address is not recommended for security reasons like others mentioned. Is that a DC? If yes then multihoming is not recommended. More here: http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/archive/2009/08/17/multihomed-dcs-with-dns-rras-and-or-pppoe-adapters.aspx You can disable DNS registration to avoid such problem. You have to give more details about your problem. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
