Windows Server 2008 Standard to Enterprise Key

We need to upgrade a 2008R2 Standard server to Enterprise for additional memory. I am familiar with the DISM method, but am concerned about obtaining a key. I know Windows keys do not work across the board (even on the same version) and don't want to purchase a key only to have it not work.

What would I need to do in order to insure that I obtain a key that will work with my installation? This is not a VM server, it is for SQL.

Thanks!

The standard edition key will not work for an enterprise edition. You need to have an enterprise edition key to activate it. More if you contact an MS Licensing specialist.

Hi,

Yes, i would agree with Ahmed MALEK, you need an enterprise edition key for the upgrade.
