Windows Server 2008 Standard installtion problem
This is a NEW server build. I purchased the retail version of Win 2k8 Standard not OEM. I am using the 64bit installation DVD. However when the installation finishes and windows comes up, I check the version installed the screen says 32bit. I have a Xeon 2.5gig Quad core with 4gig Ram with Supermicro server motherboard everything is 64bit. I thought mabe the DVD's were labeled backwards so I used the 32bit DVD and got the same information. I also ran the 64 bit DVD and performed the upgrade option, still sameproblem.Another thing that is strange is that the Software package states that I get 30 days for activation, but once installed the system states I have only 3 days for activation. This is really not a problem since I have all legal software , or so I think. When installing none of the options say x86-64, they all have X86. Was I not sold 64 bit software? Please no stupid comments I have been building computers over 26 years and have multiple certs. Thank you for your help.

It should install the 64-bit if it truly is the 64-bit version. If everything says X86 my guess is that you got the wrong version. Try putting the install dvd in a 32-bit computer. It should state it can't be installed on the 32-bit at all.MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring

Hi,
If you install Windows Server 2008 32bit, you will see the system type in Control Panel\System is 32-bit Operating System. If you install Windows Server 2008 64bit, you will see the system type in Control Panel\System is 64-bit Operating System.
If your system shows 32-bit Operating System, it is probably that you are not using a 64bit disk. I suggest contacting your Windows Server 2008 seller or your local Microsoft Customer Service for detailed information.
