Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition only uses 8GB but the server has 24gb installed.
Hi, We've recently upgraded one of our servers with more memory so that it now has 24gb total. We have Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition 64-bit installed on it. Under Control Panel\System it detects the 24 gigs. However, under performance / physical memory in task manager only 8 gb is used. Winver also reports that only 8gb is available to the server. We're totally stumped as to why this is. Anyone got any idea? thanks, Martin

Hi Martin, Please make sure you have enabled the memory remapping feature in BIOS first. If the issue persists, please install Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 For more information, please refer to the following thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/0395ecdc-771f-4259-a91e-6d3b4dc79940 Hope it helps. Turns out that motherboard requires that 2 CPUs are installed to use all memory slots on it, and we have only one CPU. The manufacturer dropped the ball here since they assured us that that the memory kit would we bought from them would work with our server. /Martin
