Windows Server 2008 STD SP2 restore

doing a test restore for a server 2008 std sp2 system from dell.

i've got the windows image backup on a disk and i dont have a dell server 2008 std install disk but i have a server 2008 std from the volume license.

when i boot the install media i get the msg that this is the wrong restore version.

is it because its not dell ?

Hi,

As the system is still running, please run MSINFO32 on your Dell system to see the exact system information, including edition (confirm if it is STD, SP2) and check if it is a 32bit system or 64bit system.

Also boot-up the installation media and see if it is a 32bit or 64bit system on disk.

Also as it is an OEM system, Dell should provide a recovery disk if there is no stand-alone installation disk. Perform a recovery and run a restore should also help in restoring from the backup you created. contact Dell if there is no such a recovery disk.
