Windows Server 2008 R2 upgrading from Enterprise to DataCentre
Hi,
We are currently running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and are looking to upgrade this to the Datacentre edition. The current server is also running as our primary domain controller. can you advise if this is a simple upgrade by running the Windows 2008
installation CD and if once upgraded this will effect our current environment. Will this wipe out any DC settings etc from the server?

Hello,
it is a supported upgrade what you are planning. Personal i wouldn't inplace upgrade a DC. I always install it new as additional machine to the domain.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi,
I was looking at bringing the Enterprise Edition into our company standards. Our secondary DC is running on Server 2008 R2 DataCentre so was really looking to bring the primary DC in line with that edition with the least amount work. I did not really want
to downgrade the DC service just to upgrade from Enterprise to DataCentre. With have other services on this box running DHCP and Hyper-V but was very concerned with the consequences of doing this while running as a DC, with DHCP and Hyper-V. Its
not the be all and end all of keeping this server as Enterprise if this is the case.

if i was at you place I would have never done an in place upgrade instead i would have added windows 2008 r2 data center as my additional domain controller and moved the rols to it.

Hi,
What can you say about Exchange 2010 SP1 on Windows 2008 R2 Standard that need to be upgraded to Enterprise?
I think to try this command to do edition upgrade:
DISM /online /Set-Edition:<edition ID> /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Thanks

Sorry, I was responding about our Exchange server issue just to confuse matters, I did try the DISM but this failed so I think we will have to keep the server as its current config. Rgds
