Has the update readiness tool been run without error? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool?SignedIn=1 Then check the %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file for errors. Hi, Generally, 0x80070005 is an "Access Denied" error message. The other possibility is that the logon permissions for the Automatic Updates service have been changed, and the AU service doesn't have the requisite permissions to execute the detection. Check the following link for possible solution. Error message when you visit the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site: "0x800A0046" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910338/en-us Also, Is there a WSUS Server involved in this environment? If it has, please try to ask in WSUS forum for better support. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverwsus/threads Or you simply have an issue with a Windows Server 2008 system properly using Automatic Updates, I would suggest scanning the LogOn column of the Services.MMC and make sure none of the system's services (like Automatic Updates) have been configured to use this account. Running the Automatic Updates service under the wrong account would definitely cause Access Denied errors. Regards,
