Windows Server 2008 R2 reporting incorrect free disk space
Hello, Please take a look at below article. NTFS Misreports Free Space? http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ntdebugging/archive/2008/07/03/ntfs-misreports-free-space.aspx You may also try reboot the computer, boot in Safe Mode to check if it still reports the incorrect free space. We have a server that stores all of our Storage Craft backups. I recently moved one of the server backup folders to another server, which should have freed up about a 1 TB of data. However, when I go into My Computer, the drive is displaying that it only has about 150GB of free space. When I look at the properties of the drive, it shows that used space totals 4.39TB with only 150GB of free space. But when I go into the root of the drive, and highlight all the files, right click and view properties, it shows that only 3.52 TB of data is being used. I have show hidden files enabled and I have access to all the folders. The recycle bin and System Volume Information do not show any space being taken up. Below is a screenshot. The left picture shows the properties of all the files when highlighted from the root, and the right picture shows the properties of the actual drive: Any ideas?

Going to the root of the drive like you did will not really give you an exact indication of files in use. There are a number of "super" hidden, OS use only files that will not be reported by Explorer in the method in which you are using. That is part of the reason for the discrepancy.

Use third party tool http://windirstat.info/ that help you visualize the "missing" content. Regards Milos

The weird thing is, the server has almost exactly the same amount of hard drive space from before I had transferred out 1 TB of data. So it's as if 1 TB of data magically appeared on the hard drive after I had deleted 1 TB of data.
