Windows Server 2008 R2 local admin rights
Hi, I have windows server 2008 R2 installed on my laptop and created a new administrator account for myself (admin1) with local admin rights on the machine and added it as part of the Administrator group membership The problem is that once i connect my laptop to our office domain and log in with my office domain password(non admin) it drops the local admin (Admin1) from the administrators group ?? Why does it do this ? Does it have anything to do with security policies on the Office domain ? thanks

This sounds like it might be related to Restricted Groups in Group Policy. The company domain may have a GPO to limit the membership of the local admin group. See the following KB article for some additional detail about how restricted groups work. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279301 Brian

Hi, Thank you for the post. In addition, Group Policy Preferences is another way to restrict the local admin group. http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2010/01/how-to-use-group-policy-preferences-to-secure-local-administrator-groups/ If there are more inquiries on this issue, please feel free to let us know.
