Windows Server 2008 R2 hanging
Hello
We are running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V and several VM's. Occasionally the server will gradually grind to a halt and when you try and logon it hangs at the welcome screen and all the VM's become unresponsive.
After physically powering down and rebooting there are no useful event errors and a debug log is not generated. It is a HP server and the logs do not indicate any hardware issues. Is anyone familiar with these symptoms or are you able to help me better diagnose
the symptoms.
Kind Regards
Simon Emms

Hello,
better ask this in
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverhyperv/threads and also describe the installed server roles in the VMs and if the host machine is workgroup server or doamin member, badest option would be DC.Best regards

Hello Simon,
Probably you can seek help Hyper-V forums :http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/winserverhyperv/threads
Anyways, I suggest you check VM settings whether you properly configured with recommendations like (sufficient RAM, HDD and LAN etc.)Regards, Ravikumar P

Hello,
If you can reproduce the problem, crash the computer manually and analyze the dump to see if it is caused by a driver.
To configure the machine to crash on CTR - SCROLL LOCK follow the steps in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969028 in "How to generate a manual memory dump file by using the keyboard" section.Csaba

Hello
Thanks for your response. The virtual host and all of the virtual machines are domain members on a server 2003 schema domain.
There are 5 VM's running the following roles:-
Server 1 - Exchange Server 2010
Server 2 - File and print services
Server 3 - SQL/Database server
Server 4 - Navision Access Server
Server 5 - SQL/Database test server
All have sufficient resources. This is a small 40 x user environment.
Regards
Simon
