Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote desktop licensing
Hi Guys,
I am having a simply issue by the sounds of it however struggling to find a fix.
I recently build a Windows STD 2008 R2 server.
Added to domain ran updates installed software etc all ok working fine.
I then installed remote desktop services.
I installed the host/gateway & licensing
I followed prompts allowed any RDP client to connect to the host, made it the domain scope host. I then didn't select per user or device instead configure later.
After the install i rebooted the server all working fine. I noticed the popup about the 120 day evaluation for the license. I then went ahead and installed our license to the server with our retail key OK
all worked fine.
I then went into the host manager for remote desktop services and selected specify a license server and type.
I selected per user and the server "local" automatically found the license server. I click ok it updates, it then however disconnects me straight away. I attempt to reconnect and i get this error: Because
of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer. Verify that you are logged on the network, and try connecting again.
However i can connect to the server via RDP if Im on a Vista/Win7/XP machine. The server refuses to allow our HP thin clients to connect to it.
I found many wiki's about corrupt license files or certificates nothing worked. I found this post
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/e172f4c6-dbd1-4aa1-b6d7-ffff06b40a17/
It relates to exactly what is happening, i followed the final step and uninstalled the Remote desktop services rebooted, installed it to a separate server then installed it back and selected the new server
for the license, same issues.
I then went ahead and built a brand new 2008 R2 server works perfectly until i select "per user" and "select a server" the moment i update this configuration it breaks the Remote desktop services. Even when
i uninstalled remote desktop services the same thing happens the same error message appears and i cannot connect.
If anyone is able to offer help i would deeply appreciate it.
Thank you.

Well I haven't come across a similar issue, but can you try to change your encryption level to none or client negotiate and see if that allows the thin clients to connect or not.+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+ Hany Elkady IT Infrastructure Consultant +--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+
