Windows Server 2008 R2 CA giving 'RPC Server unavailable'
The symptoms I have a very similar to what is described here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsserver2008r2general/thread/f3de8600-cf4e-4a39-a42e-7f929e1b8d6d Yet there is no solution to it for me thus far. The situation is this: - I have one Enterprise CA installed on a 2008 R2 DC, this seems to be accepting requests from client computers running Windows 7 (I see requests coming in from one user running EFS). - I want to use it to issue a certificate to my RDS farm (rds01.domain.name, rds02.domain.name and rdsfarm.domain.name), and have prepared a template based on this blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2010/04/09/configuring-remote-desktop-certificates.aspx - However, when I click request a new certificate from the Certificates MMC, I get the new RemoteDesktop template, and Computer to select from, both give me 'RPC Server unavailable'. I've checked all the permissions on the first link, and it's all good. I can run certutil -ping just fine, but no enrollment. Does anyone have any experience with this? I don't work much with CA's, but it's usually plug and play, so I don't know where the RPC Server Unavailable comes from, since it's obviously available and working.

Hello, RPC Server unavailable is a generic error that can can start with firewall problems/not open ports. For starting see: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsserver2008r2general/thread/f3de8600-cf4e-4a39-a42e-7f929e1b8d6d http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverDS/thread/775c9675-622a-49a5-b31f-6084e7c10b4e http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff955841(WS.10).aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsvistanow/archive/2008/04/08/troubleshooting-certificate-enrollment.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731429(WS.10).aspxBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Meinolf, thanks for replying. Windows Firewalls are off on both servers in question, so that pretty much can't be the cause. And also as mentioned, it works for Win7 computers for EFS, so it does accept connections... Regards, Kristoffer
