Windows Server 2008: Is it R2 or not?
This may sound like a silly (or even dumb) question, but I'm trying to verify whether a server I'm working with is Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.Here's the operating system information that is reported using various means:* Windows Control Panel . . . System: Windows Server Enterprise Copyright (c) 2007 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Service Pack 2* Dell OpenManage Server Administrator: Microsoft Windows 2008, Enterprise x64 Edition Version 6.0 (Build 6002: Service Pack 2) (x64) Server Full Installation.* Novell ZENworks Control Center: Microsoft Windows 2008 Enterprise Edition (full installation) x 64 6.0 2 6002Notice that none of the above explicitly say R2, but I'm not sure if that means it's not R2 or if the R2 is just not being reported.Perhaps someone with more experience can let me know how to verify whether the server's operating system is R2 or not. Thanks much.

That doesnt apear to be R2. Simply type "WINVER" at the command line. If it was R2, you would see it clearly in that dialog box. In addition, 2008 R2 would be listed in the logon screen. Visit my blog: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hi Larry, Your OS is Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2. This is not R2 which should be displayed as Windows Server 2008 R2. As Jorge has suggested, you can run WINVER to check Windows OS version. Regards, Bruce
