Windows Server 2003 hangs on file transfer
Hi, Just last week facing problem with my windows server 2003, when copying files from it to a different server, it just hangs. It hangs with Blank (black) screen, no network activity, but all the LEDs are glowing, even the NIC LEDs are glowing (constant glow). My Network adapter drivers are latest as per the hardware vendor site. I notices, the system frozes on large file transfers, like more than 20MBs. Please guide on resolving the issue.

Hi, Thanks for the post. First of all, let's try to verify if this issue will occur in Clean Boot Mode. In this way, we could infer that this issue may be caused by some third party program if this issue is gone in Clean Boot Mode. Clean Boot ============= Let's disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click "Start", go to "Run", and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment. 5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. 6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment. Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We may still manually run these programs later. In addition, please disable receive-side scaling in Windows Server 2003 if it is enabled. To disable receive-side scaling in the network adapter driver in Windows Server 2003, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, and then click OK. Right-click a network adapter object, and then click Properties. Click Configure, and then click the Advanced tab. In the Property list, click Receive Side Scaling, click Disable in the Value list, and then click OK. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each network adapter object. To disable the TCP Chimney feature on the server using the Netsh.exe tool if it is enabled. Specifically, to turn off TCP Chimney by using the Netsh.exe tool, we followed these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK. 2. At the command prompt, type: Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED 3. Press the ENTER key. Hope this helps.
