Windows Server 2003 bootable disk
For our network we have purchased and installed Windows Server 2003 R2 64 bit Standard Edition. As the media was costing more it was not purchased. The installer has kept the copy of the OS in one of the drives. The server is from DELL Poweredge 2950, 2 GB RAM, about 140 GB raid 5 hdd (3 drives of about 70 GB capacity each). This was done about four years ago. C drive was having 14 GB size. All application software were installed on E drive. C drive has become full over the period. Now free space in C drive is only few (single digit) MBs. To create more space in C drive, I have been deleting temporary files regularly. I am also using CCleaner to clean temp files. Size of recycle bin has been reduced to 0%. With no free space it has stopped allowing access to clients. It has become difficult to back up the hdd also. Now probably only alternative is to format the hard disk and allot around 70 GB size to C drive. Hence I created copies of OS on CD. Configured bios to boot from CD drive, but that copy is not bootable. I am not able to format the hard disk. Hence I want to know the way to create bootable CD drive of Windows server 2003 or wish to have solution to my problem of space in C drive.

As you ahve mentioned that you have got dell 2950 server so you should use the dell bootable cd called openmanage. This cd is used to boot the dell servers and to do the operating system installation. Download it from here http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=hied&fileid=142800 Thanks http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hello, If you are planning for fresh OS deployment keep in your mind that you need to install all your applications again. Ask your DELL vendor for Windows server 2003 OEM media. You may also need the OpenManager bootcd for OS deployment, you can download it from dell web site. Hope this will help you. Thanks
