Windows Server - No Internet Connection with Static IP
Hi, I have posted this within the Windows Server 2012 forum, but have not resolved. Thought I would try my luck here :). Issue: When assigning a static IP address to my server, I cannot connect to the Internet through my ISP. Configuration: Windows Server 2012IIS Application Server ISP Configuration: Cable Broadband Modem - Motorola SurfBoard 5101Modem connected to Netgear switch (no management interface/dumb switch)2 Servers, 1 Router connected to SwitchISP allows me to have up to 4 devices connected to Modem (Switch, 2 servers, Router)ISP enables connectivity via MAC Address. MAC Address of Router and NIC cards from each server has been supplied to ISP. Situation: 1 Server and Router work just fine, connect to internet, no issues.Additional Server with static IP cannot connect to Internet. Troubleshooting attempted: Switched NIC cardsSwitched PortsDisabled/Enabled NICsRe-installed NICsUninstalled and Re-Installed TCP/IPCleared ARP CacheAssigned Static MAC to Static IP in ARP CacheI can ping server and I can ping loopback addressI cannot ping ISP Gateway of 206.54.206.1 on this server (Can ping ISP Gateway on other server just fine)Trace Route (tracert) does not connect to anything/times out. Not sure what else to try. Expensive server and need to use. New Dell R410. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I work for a ISP, and for me it look like your modem does not handle more than 2 MAC. (and yes, a lot of modem does not handle more than 2 mac) To rule that out: Unplug from the server1 NIC, spoof the server 1 MAC on server 2 if you can (usually the dell will allow you that if you installed the NIC management software) and try again. Thanks for the response. That is what I have boiled this down to, but the ISP, speaking to three reps to confirm through Entouch Technical Support assures me that the modem can handle up to 5 MACs. I have even tried to connect the modem directly to the server. Yesterday, I called the ISP and had them switch the MAC to another server entirely, still no success. I feel like something is wrong with the modem or the modem with the switch. The ISP told me that they could see my other server that has been working fine all this time and my router behind the modem, but not either of the 2 servers I am trying.

For the switch no worry, it does not use any MAC, so it will make your gear available to the modem. Your server, does the MTU, is by default and the jumbo frame ? Did you changed those value ? I would re-put them at the default. Behind the switch, those 2 server can ping each other I guess (because the are surelly in the same ip segment) ? If yes, request a modem change. Usually speaking, anything that will *talk* to the modem will be seen by it (by mac), so if the ISP can't see the mac in the modem = bad nic config (wich I doubth if both server can ping) or a bad modem.MCP | MCTS 70-236: Exchange Server 2007, Configuring Want to follow me ? | Blog: http://www.jabea.net | http://blogs.technet.com/b/wikininjas/

Thanks again for the feedback. I had the ISP tech come out today and he validated that they do not support more than 2 MACs behind the modem. Awesome!
