Windows Search Service Fails
Not sure what I did wrong. I installed Windows Server 2008 RTM and added the Windows Search Service just as I had in the past (with the RC). However, unlike the RC version it doesn't work. I get zero items indexed and there are thousands of errors in the event log: Log Name: ApplicationSource: Microsoft-Windows-SearchDate: 3/19/2008 6:30:23 PMEvent ID: 3031Task Category: GathererLevel: ErrorKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: WIN-4SRJHPGPSMIDescription:A document ID cannot be allocated. I've tried removing/adding back the role but it still doesn't work. I'd really like to fix this. Thanks!

Hello, Based on my research, this might be a generic error code when we get an error from the JET database. Please check whether you are low on diskspace. Please also try to stop and restart the Windows Search Service and have another try. If the above method doesn't help, please try to reinstall the Windows Search Service again. During the installation, please select a different Volume that you want to index. After the installation is finished, please check whether there are any error messages recorded and let me know the result. Thanks. Regards, Neo Zhu -MSFT

I have the same problem. I performed the steps you suggested, and the errors recur... several hundred per minute.

FWIW, both Outlook 2007 and OneNote 2007 are installed. They both seem to leverage search in some way. -gil
