Windows Media Server on Windows Server 2008
Hi,Just trying to get an idea of possible solutions utilizing Windows Media Server on Windows Server 2008.What I would like to know right away is there support for streaming content other than WMI such as Xvid, DivX, MPEG etc ?Second, I am intending on placing a HD TV capture card in my new 2008 Windows Sever PC, which currently shares through simple file sharing, all my media across my home network. My question here is this; is it at all possible either via Media Streaming or even some some Terminal Services solution, possible, to infact share HDTV content in real time across my network to client PCs.Ideally, client PCs would be able to, even if only one at a time, view HD TV Broadcasts through my HDTV Capture device located on the server.I would expect this put a large load on the server processes and also chew up a lot of network bandwidth. However I do not expect this to an issue as the server is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 with 8GB of RAM operating with two Gigabit network cards and the entire client network is operating on Gigabit hardware.I am sure this is probably not the intended use of eitherWMS or Terminal Services software so third party solutions would also be acceptable, but ideally, if there was a work around possible within the Microsoft framework that would be excellent.Essentially I am trying to centralize my media services and file sharing to a single server within my home.I understand there are workarounds such as capturing the required video data onto the server, thenconverting/compressing it to a streamable format to client PCs, however a real time, uncompressed solution would be ideal. I am not currently aware of a PC powerful enough its capable of converting uncompressed HDTV data (around 10GB per hour of video and AC3 Audio) to a format like WMI then streaming it within a timeframe that would resemble "real time" for the end user (several seconds).Any assistance would be appreciated.
