Windows Media Player missing in Desktop Experience
Hi
I've just started with Windows Server 2008 Web Edition. I need to have Windows Media Player installed so that I can stream video, so I added the Desktop Experience feature and rebooted. I found that the other Desktop Experience features are present, but
WMP is not. I've tried this on several occasions but with the same results.
I tried adding Streaming Media Services and this installs OK, but it does not install WMP. I've tried downloading WMP11 directly, but when I install it is says there are no updates available, suggesting that it thinks that WMP is installed.
Any suggestions?
Thx
Phil

Seems like an odd issue, have you tried searching the filesystems for
wmplayer (the executable name)? If it is installed, then it should be in
the Program Files(x86)\Windows Media Player directory.

Hi PhilJohn
Agree with
Mike’s suggestion, please check in file system to determine if windows media player program files was installed.
Meanwhile, please check if it worked with select “Quality Windows audio video experience” when you install desktop experience feature on your server .After
install progress,please restart your computer.

Hi PhilJohn,
Another method you may like try :
Check if it worked with
perform “sfc /scannow”
on your system to scan integrity of all protected system files and repairs files.
Or You can still repair the machines from the installation disk if needed:
1. Insert the Windows Server 2008 disc and then start the computer.
2. press a key during "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …"
3. choose language, time, currency, keyboard or another method and then press Next.
4. press repair your computer
there is no problem to reinstall the software on the same machine as before.
Thanks.

Did anyone get a reply on this ever? Windows Media Player does not install with Desktop Experience on Windows Web Edition 2008 - no error messages or any indication that it's not installing - it just simply isn't there...the other features are, when
trying to install it manually it gives the same error as the OP - whether you have desktop experience installed or not...
