Windows Firewall on Server 2008
We have a Windows 2008 domain with about 10 servers. All of the domain controllers are 2008, 1st release, 32-bit. We just installed a new Exchange server on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit. It is a member server. On 2 of the 6 Windows 2008 DC servers, and on the 2008 R2 member server, when Windows Firewall is turned OFF, it has the exact same effect on the server as unplugging the network cable. Turn the firewall ON, and you can connect and everything seems to be working fine. It seems backwards to me. Please let me know if anyone has experienced this and if there is a solution. Thanks in advance. Flux

It sounds like you are disabling the Windows Firewall Service itself, which you should not do. The appropriate way to turn off the firewall is to go to Control Panel > Windows Firewall, and "Turn Windows Firewall on or off."A+, Net+, Sec+, MCP, MCTS, VCP4
