Hi , After installing win2k8 R2 firewall shows windows firewall is not using recommended settings and I see that "on recommended is selected and windows firewall service is started and also have Forefront installed

If you have installed Forefront TMG, I would expect that to override the OS recommended firewall settings.Bill

Also run "Netsh WinSock Reset" from elevated command prompt , Please suggest
