Windows Cluster...
Dear Friends
we are planning a hyper V deployment and we will be having virtual machines.. its like 2 physical machines having 2-2 virtual machines... and both each virtaul machine will then be clustered to the other virtual machine in the other physcial server...
this we are planning for Active-Active redundancy ...correct me if i am wrong... but i got one question.. do i really need to have shared storage.. becoz as of now .. we didnt planned for it and we thought the deplyment can be done on the internal hard disks..
now m getting bit worried..
this implementationis for the exchange ........... and clusters will be on CAS and HUB transport role..and for mail box role DAG implementation if i m not wrong .. but for any of these we dont have shared storage .. please adviseThanks Happiness Always Jatin

If you want to use the Windows clustering feature to make the VMs highly available, then yes you will generally need shared storage. You can use the high availability and mirroring features built into exchange and possibly get away without shared
storage, but I'm not an expert in that area. In that case you will not use Windows clustering, I don't believe. Shared storage could be a Windows box (or cluster) running the Microsoft iSCSI target or StarWind to present shared iSCSI storage. Maybe
not the best solution, but maybe you will have a file server or two you can setup for this.C Shane Cribbs

Thanks Shane for the helpful reply...
i know i can use iSCSI targets.. but i can explain you the way i want this to work.. is this possible that my physical servers having two VM each ... will form a cluster with the other VM machine on the other physical server... with internal storage .. right
now i have 4 TB of storage per server.. and as of now i cant order SAN. the way it looks to me it .. the servers are configured with RAID 5 then the virtual machines are clustered... possible ...? Please adviseThanks Happiness Always Jatin

Hello,
according to "this implementationis for the exchange ........... and clusters will be on CAS and HUB transport role..and for mail box role DAG implementation if i m not wrong .. but for any of these we dont have shared storage .. please advise" this is about
Exchange and should be asked in the Exchange forum.
If you need help with really pure clustering problems then pleas euse the high availability forum:
