Windows Application Server Role missing in Windows Server Technical Preview
Hi, I've installed Windows Server Technical Preview. I've used the en_windows_server_technical_preview_x64_dvd_5554304.iso from MSDN. When configuring, the Application Server Role looks to be missing. Searching the internet about this results in zero hits. Has anyone an idea?

Hi W.vanOijen,

Are you trying to to setup Sharepoint? Currently, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 is not supported for installation on computers running the Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system.   Installing SharePoint Server 2013 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012 R2 could lead to unexpected behavior, therefore, Microsoft does not support SharePoint Server 2013 in Windows Server 2012 R2, therefore the server preview must not support now.

The related KB:

SharePoint 2013 Support for Windows Server 2012 R2

Im glad to be of help to you!

Hi, Alex,

Thank you for your response but my question has got no relation towards MS SharePoint Server. I simply miss the Application Server Role option in Windows Server TP. In former versions this Role is needed when using DTC, COM+ Network Access, SQL Server etc. I wonder if it's not yet implemented in this version or that the Application Role Services may be implemented in another way in this TP version. I'm also surprised that Internet search results in zero hits about this issue.

as per Vivian_Wang from Microsoft in the other post, application server has been deprecated...

Hi,

According to my test, the application server role is removed for the technical preview.

Application Server role is deprecated in windows server 2012r2, the Application Server role is deprecated and will eventually no longer be available as an installable server role. Instead, install individual features and roles separately.
