Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000
The default NTLM authentication level is different in Windows 7. I suggest that you change the level to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated Please refer: Network security: LAN Manager authentication levelMCSE, MCSA, MCDST

I have one windows 7 professional pc that I need to join to my windows 2000 server domain. I cannot get it done! On my server, it seems to add the computer, and I can access the mapped drive, but it does not create the administrator/domain name on the client workstation. It says there is a problem with the trusts. Anybody know what I should do??? thanks

Please refer the following website to join the domain. Connect your computer to a domain For more information you can access: Windows 7 Features Domain join If the issue persists, please let us know if there is any error message when you try to join the domain. Also try to remove the computer from AD and try to join the domain again.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hello Arthur, I am sorry to pick on you but I see your name on a lot of these replies, so yet again here is someone trying to get Windows 7 Setup on a Domain to use network shares. By the way those links do nothing for those that have added PC to Domain as they offer no links to what happens if adding to a Domain fails. The server is running Windows 2000 Advance Server and I have 4 other PC's and a laptop that all connect to the server and have no problems. One of the PCs died and we replaced it with a PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. (We did not know that you cannot connect to a Domain or use network shares.) So according to the person at Microsoft Online store we purchase the Anytime upgade to Windows 7 Professional. When I try to add the Win 7 Pro PC, after giving an Admin user name and password I keep getting to following error message. "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain. For information about network troubleshooting, see Window Help." Our network exist like this: Router assigns IP address to all PC and Server ( Domain Controller/ File Server) has a static IP When viewing the Network from Win 7 it shows the Server and all the PCs as well as a Printer that is on the network. I figured if I can see the Server why not just connect to the network share (like the laptop does) but when to try to access the server you get a message that the server is not reachable and you don't have authorization contact the network administrator. So I trying mapping the network drive and telling it to use a different user credentials and when it tries it keeps coming back with a username and password dialog and eventually after trying all Username/Password combinations you get a message that basically say that you don't have Authorization to access the share from this station. When I look at the network connection and show all details you can see the IP, SM, and Gateway IPs you also see the DNS IPs that router has passed along and they match like a the XP machines show. Since there seems to be a lot of people having the same type problem I have tried changing the setting on encryption, permisson, etc. I tried the registry change and I have even tried to Download Virtual PC and XP mode and still get the same results... it will not join the Domain. Sorry for the book but sometimes it helps to know all the information. Thanks, Thomas

Thomas, I am in exactly the same place you are. Windows 2000 server in a small but great network, the new Win 7 machine sees everything and will even talk to the server but only sees the other XP workstations, I t will not share with them and The server will not allow the new machine to join. It seems so close to working that it is very frustrating. I see that they haven't helped you at all here. I am calling in a profressional and if he/she gets it to run I will certainly share that with you so you can get yours going as well. You gotta love Macs.. They really do network easily!
