Below is a direct copy n paste from http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/33c7b64c-9a3e-4caf-8770-575a44bd87cf/ as I was told to move my post here Hi, Thanks in advanced for any help. I have been doing alot of reading ect on various people issue's similar to mine. But it's still not working. I have 2 Workstations for Testing HP dc7900 Ultra Slim Dell Optiplex 755 We have Server 2008 fully patched (not R2) Domain Functional Level is Windows Server 2003, our current setup is completely Windows XP SP3 I am using WDS to deploy the images, and using DFS names I have created a seperate Windows 7 Test OU in the root of our AD Domain. I have downloaded all the drivers I required from the Manufactures website and added the driver packages to WDS, all drivers are installed not a problem. I have Disabled inheritance on the Test OU i created. the Test User profile path I have been using the non DFS name. I also have both a profile and .v2 Profile created, When the user logs off the .v2 profile is populated Folder Re-direction I have tried with and without DFS, as well as setting the AppData to use Local Path. I have built an image with all our software and about 25 hotfixes as well as other windows updates in it, and also tried with a Clean install of windows no added software, no updates and hotfixes. Both are taking 10 Minutes to log on my Test User onto the computer It's sitting at Welcome Screen for 30 seconds then going to preparing desktop for about 2 minutes, then goes to a black screen with a little box up the top right saying preparing desktop, then Browser Customizations. I have read and tried the clean boot thing. but as I have been trying things with a Blank Copy of windows 7 Enterprise there is no start up icons or any services that are not Microsoft Also what doesn't work is the Shortcuts thing through preferences in GPO - the error in event log for this is Access is Denied

Hello ShindaNZ, What is the exact error message in the event viewer including event ID? Does this issue exist in Windows safe mode with network? Meanwhile, please enable userenv logging and output of gpresult /z , upload them to the SkyDrive, then let us know upload link. How to enable user environment debug logging in retail builds of Windows http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221833 The Welcome screen may be displayed for 30 seconds during the logon process after you set a solid color as the desktop background in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977346 Brent Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. here is the GPResults File http://cid-b72ed5351cc438b3.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/GPRESULT.TXT I have Done the registry edit for the UserEnv but when this is enabled it's logging but it doesn't create a File called Userenv.log But did have a file called qpsvc.log Also without changing anything, other than trying to have this registry edit done, It's been logging in fast, and have re-imaged with our full image and it took about 3 minutes to log in.... Now I'm reallly confused as because it's just working fine now and we didn't change anything....

Hi ShindaNZ, Please, If you check on http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx, neither of the computers are on the compatibility lists. For me, it means that computer drivers are not available on the Windows 7 installation DVD or through Windows Update by now. So, you have to rely on the OEM site for drivers, HP and Dell. I suggest you to build the computers from OEM DVDs and to load all the drivers. After it, you must verify that the computer is running as desired. Then you start the imaging process and put the imageon the WDS server. Please check on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772106(WS.10).aspx and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.08.desktopfiles.aspx?pr=blog Please be aware that you have many sources of issues about the performance of the images. One of them is to transfer the image to similar machines. Other is the performance of network cards drivers. Or build a strong enough unattended file to deal with all the possibilities. The Drivers i'm using are injected Via WDS and have been download through the HP Website, the Dell drivers all install without driver injection. When logging on locally it all works fine - it's only when using Roaming Profile I get the issue of slow log ons. I have already done done multiple different images, and this is without the software just using the install.wim file from the Windows 7 DVD. the unattended file is working good. Hello ShindaNZ, >I have Done the registry edit for the UserEnv but when this is enabled it's logging but it doesn't create a File called Userenv.log For Windows 7, you can enable userenvlog as follow, then reproduce this issue and upload Gpsvc.log file to SkyDrive. userenvlog for Windows Vista/2008/Win7 http://blogs.technet.com/b/mempson/archive/2010/01/10/userenvlog-for-windows-vista-2008-win7.aspx BrentPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Okay so the problem is still persisting. The reason It went away was because there was still 2 hidden files in the Profile Directory. So now each time I'm testing the Profile folder is getting re-created. Also To note that I'm putting the user with full permission and Everyone with full permission. just to make sure the folder security is correct. This is from the Dell that I imaged only with windows Logged in with LocalAdmin - Enabled this from Bent Hu - userenvlog for Windows Vista/2008/Win7 http://cid-b72ed5351cc438b3.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Dell/gpsvc.log Here is a GPRESULT /z http://cid-b72ed5351cc438b3.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Dell/GPRESULT.txt

I have also done the First Method of UserEnvDebugLevel from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221833 on the HP - GPSVC Log http://cid-b72ed5351cc438b3.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/HP/gpsvc.log GPRESULT /Z http://cid-b72ed5351cc438b3.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/HP/GPRESULT.TXT As you can see in the logs there is a couple big time Delays of over 1Minute I'm not sure if it's relivant but the contents of the .v2 Profile is different between the Dell and HP. The Dell has just AppData and ntuser.ini Where the HP has all the folders from the profile like documents, pictures music, as well as AppData

Through alot more testing we have found that the Specific Folder Re-directions are causing the slow log ons Searches Favourites If we have these to Not Configured then we get about a 2 minute log on time. Hello ShindaNZ, This error can occur because link status fluctuates as the network adapter (also known as the network interface card, or NIC) driver initializes and as the network adapter hardware negotiates a link with the network infrastructure. The Group Policy application stack executes before the negotiation process is completed and can fail because of the absence of a valid link. Ok, I have downloaded the Latest Drivers from Intel for the Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit network Connection Installed the driver on my workstation checked the version number and then put the driver into WDS and imaged the computer - Checked the version number on my Dell Windows 7 Test Workstation, and is the same version 9.13.41.0 If found that the Netlogon Error only occur's the 1st time when the computer is first imaged then further restarts with no log in's it doesn't have any Error's I did Make a Computer GPO that Pushed the Regsitry Settings of DisableDHCPMediaSense as below How to disable Media Sense in Windows 7? http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7desktop/thread/18277955-3f2c-4328-bd87-d3567579b645 Hive HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Key path SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters Value name DisableDHCPMediaSense Value type REG_DWORD Value data 0x1 (1) And Event ID 5719 is logged when you start a computer on a domain, and the computer is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938449 Hive HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Key path SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Netlogon Value name DependOnService Value type REG_MULTI_SZ Value Term Service We do NOT have STP running So the other Articles was a bit strange saying you have to have it enable and then another one say you need to disable it. Hello ShindaNZ, As a reminder, if computer is running Windows 7, please do not disable Media Sense by modifying registry key. As of Windows Vista and later version, DisableDHCPMediaSense functionality has been integrated into TCPIP stack and hence the registry key doesn't have an effect any more. Some notes about DisableDHCPMediaSense behavior on Windows Vista, 2008, Windows 7 and 2008 R2 http://blogs.technet.com/b/nettracer/archive/2010/06/03/some-notes-about-disabledhcpmediasense-behavior-on-windows-vista-2008-windows-7-and-2008-r2.aspx >I get these Warning which I noted earlier about Access is Denied - If this is a different issue thats fine. That is event error about Registry item in GP Preferences, it's different issue. Do you have install the latest SP2 and updates on the Windows server 2008? If no, I suggest you install them on the Windows server 2008 firstly.
