Windows 2008 network file transfers EXTREMELY slow
Hi all,I have two servers on my network both with exactly the same specs but one is running Server 2003 while the other is running 2008.Transferring a 200mb file from the '03 box to the '08 box completes in under 1 minute over our 100mbit connection, whereas transferring the same file from the '08 box back over to the '03 box takes in excess of 15 minutes.I have searched the forums and a few people have suggested running the following commands on the '08 box, which I have done:netsh int TCP set global chimney=disablednetsh int TCP set global autotuning=disablednetsh int TCP set global rss=disabledI have also installed QoS on the '03 box as suggested in another thread and disabled IPv6 on the '08 box. This hasn't helped :(I really am plee'ing for some guidance here as 10GB backups are taking a lifetime to transfer over and I'm at a loss on what to try next.

Hi, To isolate the influence of additional applications or services, please boot both computers to safe mode with network to do the copy file tests. If this problem continues, I recommend that you perform the following suggestions: Suggestion 1: Install updates on Windows Server 2008 955302 A reliability and performance update is available for computers that are running Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;955302 948572 A handle leak occurs in a Server Message Block (SMB) session between computers that are running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=948572 Suggestion 2: Install updates on Windows Server 2003 A Windows Server 2003-based computer responds slowly to RDP connections or to SMB connections that are made from a Windows Vista-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/947773 If the issue continues, I suggest that you post this issue in Networking forum. The support professionals there are better qualified to analyze the network packets. For your convenience, Ive included a link of networking forum website: Platform Networking http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverPN/threads/ Best regards, Vincent Hu
