Windows 2008 custom ports
I want to assign port 49152 and 49153 to a specific application. I changed the dynamic ports to start from 49154. On the server we don't use the firewall. In the application itself I have already specified these two ports. But it doesn't work and get the application event error below. The description for Event ID 0 from source Application Name cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: Application Name cannot bind TCP service with port 49152.

Which application are you talking about? If your application is configure to listen on 49152 and 49153, you don’t need to modify the default RPC port on the server. It depends on the application. Is your application listening on 49152 and 49153? Type Netstat –a on the application server. Changing the RPC dynamic ports to start from 49154 fixed the problem. I just had to give the server a reboot. Thanks.
