Windows 2008 Service pack 2 integrated (slipstreamed) ISO
Hi all, I was wondering - after the service pack 2 RTM for W2K8 and Vista is released, when will the integrated ISO's be available in TechnetPlus download area? Moreover, once upon a time I was able to slipstream the SP into windows (2003, XP) by myself. Why was the "/integrate" parameter removed? Why do MS make us use other, unsupported tools, to integrate SP into Vista and 2008? I couldn't find any help in MS support on this... Will appreciate any help, Venom

hi there, based on my research i have found the article / blog which explains why slipstreaming is not supported by microsoft for vista and windows 2008http://blogs.technet.com/kevinremde/archive/2008/02/09/i-can-t-do-what-why-can-t-i-create-my-own-slipstreamed-installation-of-windows-vista-sp1.aspxand also in short "Microsoft still does not officially support direct slipstreaming of SP1 into a Vista RTM image, due to a servicing layer in the Windows Vista and Windows Sever 2008 that allows for easy update installatino with minimal disruptions,"there are method available on internet to slipstream the SP , but they are not the recommended practicesainath Windows Driver Development

Hi. I have no idea when SP2 will be available in TechnetPlus download area. SP2 has not been official released. You may contact TechnetPlus site for detailed information after SP2 is released. As Windows Vista and Windows XP are manufactured on different foundations, their Service Pack integrate method can be different. You can use a Microsoft tool WAIK to integrate SP1 into Windows Vista. You can also use third-party tools to do this. The following articles introduces how to integrate SP1 into Windows Vista using WAIK: How to Integrate and Slipstream SP1 Into Windows Vista RTM http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/02/15/how-to-integrate-and-slipstream-sp1-into-windows-vista-rtm/ Slipstream Windows Vista Service Pack 1 http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsVista/Slipstream_Windows_Vista_SP1.html Related information: Unsupported methods to update a customized image of Windows Vista to a Windows Vista Service Pack 1 image http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/951035/ Frequently Asked Questions: Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335038.aspx Hope it helps. The first thing that the install of SP2 for Windows Server 2008 says is that it might take over an hour and several reboots. That's pretty disruptive. Of course, it's only for new machines that a splipstreamed version would be useful anyway, but considering how long it takes to install Windows (much less than that) it seems like such a waste of time to then also apply SP2 to every new machine. I don't have any Technet subscription, so I'll have to either just bear it or go look for a non-supported way to do it.
