I want to setup a Windows 2008 as a Authorized NTP server. This server should provide Time updates to any infrastructure device in the enviorment.
What are the options avaliable.

If this 2008 Server is a Domain Controller, you can assign it the FSMO role of PDC Emulator. The role also takes the role of authoritative time source. It will respond to SNTP and NTP requests.
If its not a DC, you could always install third party software to run NTP services.Visit my blog: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hello,
in a domain the DC with the PDCEmulator must be configured with, as that DC is the domain time source:
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:PEERS /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
With "PEERS" you can set the time source, either DNS name (time.windows.com) or an ip address from a reliable time source, can also be a hardware device like router but NOT a real domain member like other domain servers.
Here you can find some of them:
http://www.pool.ntp.org/
-------------------------------------------------------------------
In case some domain machines have problems to synchronize the time run the following on them:
w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update
After that run:
net stop w32time
net start w32timeBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
