Windows 2008 R2 server
Hello,
To Microsoft Enginneers Windows 2008 R2 Server Group.
I have just purchased and installed two copies of Windows 2008 R2 Server on both my Servers.
That part all went well.
Here is the night mare.
Microsoft have changed the way they do things with 2008 R2 server.
The problem is with the logon and Profiles in windows 2003 all users logon as administrator to the desktop computer and there for get the same Administrator desktop profile no matter which computer they use as the desktop profile comes from the desktop and
not the server.
With Windows 2008 R2 Server this has all changed creating a night mare.
The desktop Profile now is pushed out from the server.
This would normally be ok if all computers had the same operating system and programs installed.
We have Windows 7 and windows XP computer.
There are 4 banks of computers all with different programs installed for different year levels.
So no one has been able to solve this issue.
I hope there is a solution.

Local and roaming profiles are stored in different way. While XP has local profiles in subdirectories of Documents and Settings, W7 has profiles in subdirectory of users. In roaming profiles there is difference in suffix in W7 profiles, namely .V2.
You will do better to specify target configuration.

Hello,
I have just purchased and installed Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 server on both my new servers.
It very difficult to contact a Microsoft engineer directly to talk about and solve this problem.
Even enginners from Microsoft Partners have been able to assist and come up with a solution.
Microsoft decieded to change the way users can logon to a domain and recieve a desktop profile.
To explain when it was Windows 2003 server all desktop users logon was as administrator when they logged onto the domain.
This ment that all user got the same Administrator Desktop and profile each time they logon to any computer on the network.
With 2008 R2 server the profile is sent out from the server to each workstation each time a user logs on.
This would be great if all computers on the network were the same with the same operating system and programs installed.
I have 4 banks of computers all with different programs installed for the year levels R to Y7 and some are Windows 7 and some are Windows XP.
There has to be a solution where you can get the new Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 server so that each user gets the same desktop profile from the computer they are logging onto and not from the server.
Please direct this to the correct Microsoft Windows R2 server enginneers because it is a real problem.
Thanks please contact me via email if you require any more information.
